The Irish Elementary school community is requesting to change their official school name from Jean Irish Elementary School to Irish Elementary Escuela Bilingüe.  Principal Lindsey Walton has worked with her staff, families, and students to establish a name for the school that protects the legacy of the school and reflects the academic program offered to the students.  All Irish students learn to read, write, listen and speak in both Spanish and English.  Per District Policy FF, Ms. Walton and the Irish school community have completed the required steps necessary to rename the school.  You will find their Name Change Proposal attached.

PSD Policy requires schools to go through an extensive review with their respective school communities when asking for a renaming of the school.  Principals and school leaders are asked to communicate with parents, staff, and students when considering the change.  Additionally, PSD Policy FF is in place to guide schools through this work.  Irish Elementary staff have been planning for this change for over a year and they have worked through their various parent groups and staff leadership teams to build support for the decision.
